Anvil Island From Britannia
West Howe Sound, BC
1949, Oil on Board, 38" x 32"

Weston’s work was appreciated by some high profile admirers, and exhibited in major centres.Princess Alice bought Anvil Island No. 2 as a gift for her husband the Earl of Athlone in 1941. At that time he was the governor-general of Canada.(38)

"His two paintings entitled Anvil Island 1 and 2 are ‘different’ pictures of stormy cloud rhythms with deep gray mountain tops beyond a milky expanse of water and cleanly drawn rocks in the foreground."(39)

In 1937, International Business Machines Corporation started collecting paintings that were representative of the countries they did business with. IBM bought a large canvas of one of Weston’s paintings of Howe Sound.(40)

His painting Castaways was shown in the Dominion Coronation Exhibit in London, and then in the Canadian Exhibit at the New York World Fair.
